Wearing Glasses with Hats

Who doesn’t love hats? They add style.  They add flare.  They add personality.  And, they add an air of confidence to just about every ensemble.

I think that makes them a lot like glasses!

So, what happens when you combine these two accessories?  Well, magic of course.  If they are combined correctly, that is!

What’s Hot in Fall Hats?

No one will be surprised to see more beanies. Rib knit, cable knit, solids, patterns…you name it.  Beanies are hot and actually practical as the temps get a little cooler this season!

Fedoras are also back but their rims are getting a little wider and a little floppier.  Rancher hats are another fun choice readily available this season.  (If you aren’t sure what that is think of a leather-trimmed, less dramatic version of a cowboy hat.)

Other cute hats I’ve seen include glammed up versions of baseball caps, cute wool fitted caps and shearling trapper hats (think of a cuter version of a traditional leather shearling wool lined leather Eskimo hat!)

What about the Glasses with Hats?

There aren’t really any hard and fast rules to go by when matching your hats and your designer eyeglasses.  You’ll mostly just want to make sure that what’s on top of your head communicates the same message as what’s resting on your nose and ears.

Hipster Frames

For example, if you have a black horn-rimmed hipster frame, then that’s going to go really well with your cute knit beanie.  But, if you have some metallic gold frames with leopard print temples — those may not match as well.

Sophisticated Frames

A more sophisticated or dressier frame, like the gold one I just referenced, would look phenomenal with a wider rimmed fedora or the felt version of any wide-rimmed floppy hat.

A more glamorous looking metal frame may also go well with a dressed-up rancher hat.

Prettier plastic frames, like a designer tortoise shell frame for example, would also look good with any of these stylish hats.

Trendy Frames

If you gravitate towards trendier and more colorful eyeglass looks, I think you can easily pair your fun frames with a fitted wool hat or a pretty fedora.  Try to keep your color tones complimentary.

For example, an ox blood glasses frame would look fantastic with a gray wool cap.  Or a brown fedora will look dynamic with a duotone brown and blue frame or a tortoise shell look.
