Sheer Beauty

Summer is usually the time when we say goodbye to our layers.  But, one of this summer’s hottest trends is a light as a breeze and actually designed for layering.

The trend?  Sheer fabric!

Sheer blouses, overlays for dresses, and sheer-accented cardigans are beautiful, feminine, and a fashion staple for this summer.  Pull a sheer blouse over a tank top or sleeveless summer dress and you have the perfect way to add a layer without adding bulk!  Sheer fabrics just look and feel pretty!

You’ll see sheers in all of this season’s hottest colors: pinks, greens, blues, yellows and oranges.  Of course, nothing looks quite as summer-perfect as a sheer white blouse. Similarly, nothing looks quite as date-night sexy as a sheer black one!

While out shopping yesterday I saw a great selection of maxi dresses with sheer overlays.  The bottom layer of the dress stopped at the knees allowing the sheer layer to add the beautiful illusion of length without making the dress any heavier.  I’ve also seen lots of great over-sized shirts in colored sheer fabrics!  Put on top of your favorite solid colored tank and leggings and you’ve got a great look!

Of course, runway models have been seen in some over-the-top, head-to-toe sheer dresses. sometimes leaving little to the imagination.  But, there are some feminine yet relatively modest options out there. 

If you aren’t ready for that much sheer, consider some of this season’s cute tops or skirts that include just a touch of the fabric.  I’ve seen some up-dated, girly t-shirts with sheer only on the sleeves and some skirts with just a thin sheer ring around the bottom.  There’s really no need to bare it all to participate in one of this season’s hottest trends.

Paired with Glasses

When pairing your eyeglasses with sheer styles you have two great options. You can either go with a heavy glasses frame look to add some texture contrast.  Or, you can go with a light and barely there eyeglass frame — like a semi-rimless or light-toned, metal frame style– to keep that airy look.  Either way you can’t go wrong (see below).  Designer frames by Sofia Vergara, Daisy Fuentes, and Vera Bradley all have a great modern and feminine feel that would complement your sheer styles well.
