In the Navy…Blue, That Is!

Move over black.  Your rule of dominance in the dark neutral department is over…for this season at least.  There’s a new color in town and it’s taking over in the basics category.  That color is navy blue!

If you are like me, it’s hard to imagine parting with your black slacks or your little black dress…and truth is you shouldn’t get rid of them because we all know black will make a come back.  But, for this season, if you want to look current and fashionable, consider investing in some similar pieces in navy blue.

The great thing about navy is that it can be either cool or warm in tone.  Some shades have a little more black in them that keeps the navy a cool tone, where some have a little more orange to them making them slightly warmer in tone.

I just purchased a fabulous navy blue blouse and a pair of navy blue skinny dress pants.  But, when I got home I realized that, though both are navy, they are truly two entirely different colors.

Because navy can go either cool or warm, it looks fabulous on a lot of different skin tones.   And, it’s versatile enough to match most of the season’s hottest colors that you may already have added to your clothing or accessories wardrobe – like emerald green, ox blood (or dark burgundy colors), grays and purples!

If you are in the market for a new pair of glasses, let me encourage you to give Navy a try.  Just a few weeks ago I decided I wanted to update my glasses look.  I went into my favorite optical store (Eyeglass World) with the full intention of finding a black, funky and chunky eyeglass frame.

But, after I tried on four or five fabulous designer frames in black I realized a simple truth – no matter how stylish or what eye shape those black frames were made in, they just did not look good on me!

Then, my eyeglass stylist (ok, the optician, but eyeglass stylist sounds so much more chic, don’t you think?) recommended I try a navy blue designer frame on.

What happened?  I loved it!  The navy frame was exactly the trendy look I was going for without turning me into a hipster wannabe!
