What are the most popular trends in eyeglasses right now? Des and Erin weigh in on where they think eyewear fashion is headed.
HER: The “geek chic” trend is going strong and isn’t dying down. Oversized plastics, cat eye shapes and all things retro reign supreme.
HIM: I’m going to agree halfway here. Frame styles are definitely trending larger, there’s no doubt about that.
HER: It seems like everyone is pulling from the past to get inspiration for today.
HIM: Yeah, from Aviators™ to the heavy, plastic look that’s going around, it seems that lenses and frames can’t get big enough. If the lenses aren’t huge, the frames are fairly wide, making for a thick, bold look with most pairs.
HER: These “back in the day” styles are also being updated with fun and bold color. Interesting uses of color treatments such as color blocking and fades is also an ongoing trend.
HIM: You’re right that frames are moving toward bolder colors but people who aren’t ready to go quite that trendy in color shouldn’t shy away from trendier shapes.
HER: No color is off limits in the world of glasses but you do need a certain level of confidence to pull off a bold color. Vibrant greens and bold blues are making their way on a frame.
HIM: But remember, with the frames being so large, people don’t need color for them to stand out. Color is added with the eye itself, which is more visible behind bigger frames, and with rest of the outfit as a whole. It’s a simple, flexible look and everyone can make it their own.
HER: Either way, we can agree this is an era where individualism is glorified. Such a fun time to be in optical!
HIM: Agreed!
