Glasses and an Up-Do: a Glamorous Fashion Must-Do

The up-do has long been the fashion standard hairstyle for a formal night, weddings, or even dressy holiday parties. Nothing looks classier with a gorgeous gown than hair that is swept away from the face and styled glamorously on top or at the back of one’s head.

Add some curl, make it sleek, do a little of both… Make it soft and loose, make it tight and clean… your options are limitless when it comes to beautiful ways to create your own up-do. Or, if you are hair challenged like I am, you can ask your stylist to create an up-do that looks great with the shape of your face and what you’ll be wearing.

As a sometimes glasses wearer, I always wondered the answer to the following question: Can I wear my glasses with my hair in an up-do? Or will I look like a 1950’s librarian?

You know the mental image to which I’m referring. She’s the forty-something, single school “marm” who has her hair pulled back in a bun with a pair of cat eyes attached to her neck with a gold cord.

But trust me, combining glasses with an up-do won’t likely result in that unless that’s the look you are going for with.

In fact, you’re likely to end up with something sleek, stylish, and runway-worthy.

When pairing glasses with a swept-up hairstyle for a high-glam look, consider a frame that has some bling. A heavy-brow frame where the attention on the pair of fashion eyeglasses is higher will look great with hair that is prettily coifed.

Look for an eyeglass style with gorgeous temples as well. Because your hair will be away from your face, the earpieces will be more noticeable, so think about coordinating your frame with what you are wearing. If you are going to choose a style with a colorful patterned temple, you’ll want to make sure these colors or looks coordinate.

One final thing you will also want to consider when pairing a fabulous pair of designer eyeglass frames with a fabulous up-do is your earrings. You can decide whether or not you want your glasses to steal the show or your ears, but it’s probably best not to have them compete. If you are going to choose a fabulous sparkling frame, then you should choose earrings that are equally as sparkly but maybe a little smaller so someone looking at you knows where to look first!
