All Things 80s: Eyeglass Style

80s fashionBig. Plastic. Glasses.

As with all things 80s, they are back! And, what does every girl need to go with her oversized shirt, jeggings, light blue eye shadow and crimped hair?

A few pairs of the hottest over-sized designer eyeglasses frames, of course.

Unlike the styles that we actually wore a few decades ago, 80s take two is, in my humble opinion, a little classier that the first time around.  Colors are deeper and richer like venetian red, oxblood, burnt orange, royal blue, deep teal, and rich purples.  Clothing is a little less baggy (and gaudy), yet still bold and fun!

What truly characterized 80s fashion was the accessories!  Leg warmers, big belts, and dangling earrings are all back.  But, many of those accessories you can’t wear every day, with every outfit.  That’s not so with glasses! Choose two pairs in contrasting colors or looks (one dressy, one funky), and no one will notice if your bangs still fall flat.

The trendiest fashion glasses this season are big and bold.  Celebrities are wearing them on the red carpet because they are just that cool.  Duotone colors, black, tortoise shell, or funky patterned plastic frames are also hotter than John Cusack in Say Anything.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Check out this fun plastic frame from Vogue in purple!

The colorful spiral design on the temples is a fun (and very 80s appropriate) feature of this frame.  Why purple? Well, every little girl knows that nothing goes better with pink, right?

How about this frame by Vera Bradley  with a pretty brown tortoise look on the outside but a super cute coral pattern on the inside?

What I also like about this frame is the cute signature on the temple.  Think Grease. I dare you to find a member of the Pink Ladies who wouldn’t agree that monograms and signature embellishments are a must-have!

Or, what about this funky pair of eyeglasses from Anne Klein?

Classy and fun, plus they are super lightweight (read: comfortable).

Finally, look at this fun pair from 7 For All Mankind.

Bold and black from the front. A crazy and wild black, red, and yellow speckled pattern dazzles on the temples.  They’re subtly oversized (a great square shape for rounder faces). Love it.

What are you waiting for? Tease that hair, break out your Duran Duran cassettes and head over to your closest Eyeglass World and find the two pairs that are right for you!
