A Shapely Fashion Trend: It's Geometric

The year was 1989 and my first car– an Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais–had been custom-painted with one of the coolest trends of that decade: geometric shapes.

Wow did I love that car and it’s cool little squares, triangles and lines that shot across the door to right under the mirrors on each side. They were neon pink and neon blue of course and I can assure you I never had a hard time figuring out which car was mine in any parking lot.

Now, geometric shapes are just as hot as they were a few decades ago. And, although I wouldn’t recommend painting them on your vehicle (it wasn’t quite as cool to have those shapes on there when I was 22 as it was at 16), I would highly recommend you find a way to bring some shapely accessories, garments or other accents (like great fashion eyewear) to your wardrobe this season.

Squares, triangles, patterns like chevron or checks, and even some funky variations of plaid are a must have in skirts, dresses, tops and pants. Choose patterns in bright, bold, and contrasting colors and pair them with solids or–believe it or not–more of the same pattern. The look is confident, stylish, and sure to be noticed.

Houndstooth, stripes and other unconventional patterns are even a hot new trend in the world of weddings. Brides are using bold patterns for everything from decorations and invitations to bridesmaid’s gowns.

One of my favorite ways to wear this hot trend is to choose a monochromatic color scheme — like a black and white check pattern dress and pair it with bright, colored accessories–such as hot pink or bright green.
