3 Rules for Making a Statement

Statement necklaces are one piece of jewelry that every woman should have on hand.  They can liven up even the plainest top and take any outfit from blah to wow.

Why? Because they are bold, often colorful, and big enough to get noticed.  By definition, any accessory that brightens or spices up your outfit, classifies as a statement piece.

What about your glasses? Can they classify as a statement piece?  I think soIn fact, I think designer glasses are an incredible way to elevate any outfit.  You need a few pairs of statement glasses in your wardrobe!

There are a few rules when it comes to wearing statement accessories though.  And in some cases, you’ll have to watch how you pair a great statement eyeglass frame with those beautiful statement earrings or a necklace.

Rule 1: Keep Your Statement Clear

Just like you don’t want to try to match a powerful necklace with an already busy outfit, you may not want to match your boldest eyeglass frame with your loudest necklace.  When making a statement try to choose which piece you want the most focus to be on.

If you are choosing a statement necklace, then you need to keep your clothing simple, classic and clean.  Your eyeglasses can still be colorful and coordinate, but too many patterns or too large of an eyeglass frame may look more confused than cool.

Rule 2: Don’t Try to be Too Well-Matched

It’s actually much more attractive and attention getting to choose a statement piece that is in a color complimenting your clothing, versus matching it.  You don’t have to wear a red dress, red necklace, red shoes and red eyeglasses for example.

Choose gold or black or even white jewelry instead.  Your glasses can be tortoise or black, or any complimentary color or even in a pattern that features just a hint of the main hue of your outfit.

Rule 3: Watch Your Materials.

While being too well-matched on the color side isn’t desirable, keeping an eye on what your statement jewelry and statement eyeglass frames are made of is a good idea.

For example, a giant wooden, more organic looking statement necklace may not look so great with your ultra modern plastic glasses frame.   The same applies to pearls and your thin metal wire glasses.  Try to keep all your accessories in the same materials family and you’ll have a more consistent look.
