3 Rules For Children’s Fashion

Let’s face it. Gone are the days when children are oblivious to the clothing they wear and care nothing about fashion.  Children seem to be aware of what’s stylish and what’s not at a younger age than ever.  In fact, I’ve had arguments with my three year old over what he’ll wear for a special outing.

So, as a parent, how do you help your children navigate the fashion world?  What battles do you fight and where do you allow them freedom?  Here are some rules that I think are helpful:

Rule 1:  Stay Age Appropriate.

This may be hard when you’ve got a tween pushing to look like she’s 25… but, try to steer your children towards styles that are appropriate for their age.  If your child feels strongly about wearing a style similar to mom, dad, or another adult they know, show them youthful versions of that same look.  A great example of this principle is in eyeglass frames.  Let’s say your daughter is desperate for a black hipster frame like her teenage sister wears.  But the truth is, even the smallest black Ray-Ban adult frame would get heavy and uncomfortable on her little face.  So, help her choose a frame like this by Lucky that has the same black plastic front and look that she desires, with a much lighter weight metal temple.

Rule 2:  Don’t Spend a Fortune.

You’ll find that even more quickly than the styles change, so may the tastes and preferences of your young fashionista.   Though he or she may insist on name brands, try to shop at retailers that offer those brands at great discounts.  When you are looking for designer eyeglasses for your child, Eyeglass World will have you covered on this front with great brand names at really affordable prices.

Rule 3:  Wild Will Pass, So Let It.

When your child picks out that ultra wild colored outfit that you aren’t sure you want her to wear in public, what do you do? Do you draw the line and say, “No, choose the blue one instead.” Or, do you let her “express” her creative side.  I say let it go.  Although you can’t get away with wearing wild styles anymore, a child can.  Allow this time of youthful freedom, knowing that someday their tastes will change.  That’s another great advantage to buying your child’s glasses at Eyeglass World – you can allow them the freedom to pick out whatever pair they like best and then pick a second, perhaps more conservative style, in case their wild pair gets old.  For example, you could choose these two pairs for a daughter who sometimes likes to go fashion wild!
